Advertising Portrait Photography
Headshots work took him abroad this week (ok he went to edinburgh, but it involved getting on a plane) to photograph people who work for glendola leisure – the group behind a diverse range of bars and pubs including waxy o’connor’s.
It was arranged by Bristol based design agency DNA who came into contact with Hacker in a slightly unusual way. “A conversation started in the agency’s studio because their usual photographer wasn’t available for a shoot.” Hacker tells us. “One of the team mentioned he’d been a guest at a wedding recently and remembered the wedding photographer was really good at engaging with the guests – and getting good shots. After a few texts between a few friends he worked out the photographer was me!”
Chris Bennett – one of the partners at DNA got in touch with Hacker and following a test shoot he was booked.
The brief was to photograph the staff for the company’s careers website. They wanted aspirational and inspirational portraits of the team to attract the right sort of candidates to apply for the jobs.
Hacker chose a simple black and white style so the images would easily blend across all formats and provide a strong background over which fluro text was going to be laid. He used a semi-flattering simple light set up so expressions stood out.
“I think the photographs show how much fun we had shooting.” Headshots tells us. “Although I had to work hard to bring the best out of people in front of the camera, that’s one of the main reasons you employ a photographer. It’s a skill I’m known well for while still making the shoot fun.”
